Simulation Study of GIS Cable Terminal Defect Detection Based on Ultrasonic Method
The GIS cable terminal refers to a specialized joint used to connect gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear and cables. Within the GIS cable terminal, there are two composite interfaces: epoxy resin/rubber and rubber/XLPE. In low-temperature environments, the differing expansion rates between metal and epoxy resin can lead to defects at the joint surface, resulting in partial discharge and potentially catastrophic failures such as explosions. We employed ultrasonic testing methods for the detection of defects in GIS cable terminals by simulation study. By analyzing the waveform of the received ultrasonic signals, it is possible to ascertain the existence of internal defects within these terminals. The ultrasonic method demonstrates significant potential for effective defect detection in GIS cable terminals.
