Modeling and Analysis of Albedo effect on Bi-facial Module Configuration for Mega Solar PV Plant

The performance and efficiency of PV modules is dependent on various factors such as solar irradiance, temperature, humidity, soiling and module losses. Further, the reflections from the ground surface on the rear side of Bi-facial solar panels can improve power generation compared to standalone Mono-facial solar panel modules. Therefore, the surface of the ground is important in analyzing the power improvement and performance of Bi-facial solar modules. This paper analyzes the albedo effect on a Bi-facial module configuration for different reflecting surfaces for a large scale mega solar power plant. The study also focuses on evaluating the performance and feasibility of Bi-facial and Mono-facial configurations in terms of performance ratio, loss factor, module losses and energy yield. Comparison with three reflecting surfaces such as Urban Environment, Grass and Fresh Snow shows that the performance ratio and energy yield of Fresh Snow are better compared to others.
