Study of spine morphometry based on inertial measure-ment unit
Addressing the challenges of radioactivity and portability inherent in spinal morphology measurement methods such as X-ray, CT and MRI, this study describes the design and implementation of a novel spinal morphology measurement approach utilizing Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs). The method commences by capturing data from various segments of the human spine using IMUs. Subsequently, Bézier curve modeling and the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) algorithm are integrated to reconstruct the spinal posture. Through simulation analysis and data processing, the Cobb angle of the re-constructed curve is successfully computed, with an accuracy error maintained within ±2° relative to medical reports. This confirms the effectiveness and feasibility of the method in monitoring spinal curvature, offering a convenient solution for early detection and long -term surveillance of spinal health.
