Research on Construction Progress Monitoring Based on 3D Point Clouds and BIM Models
Construction progress monitoring is a critical aspect of construction management. However, measuring the progress of a building remains a manual, time-consuming, and error-prone task that often involves lengthy analysis processes. These inefficiencies lead to delays, additional costs, and increased workloads. Effective progress monitoring requires comparing the planned construction state at a given time (planned state) with the actual construction state (as-built state). The planned state is typically derived from Building Information Modeling (BIM), which incorporates both the geometric design and the construction schedule, This paper proposes a point cloud projection method for coarse registration, leveraging the vertical alignment characteristics of buildings to the ground. Compared to traditional coarse registration methods, the proposed approach significantly improves both speed and accuracy. Following the registration of real-world point clouds with point clouds generated from BIM models, the method segments the point clouds into slabs and columns. By comparing their respective areas, the current construction progress is accurately calculated [1].
