A Hybrid Energy Harvesting System of The Electromagnetic Field around The Power Cords

In this paper, a hybrid energy harvesting system is proposed, which can harvest both the electric field energy and the magnetic field energy around the power cords. To realize the hybrid energy harvesting, a high voltage coupling capacitor (HVCC) is employed. On one hand, the electric filed energy can be induced through the capacitive coupling between the grounded tower and the power cords. On the other hand, the magnetic field energy is harvested by a current transformer (CT) device, and then tranferred to the grounded tower through the HVCC. Firstly, the overall system structure of the proposed system is presented. Secondly, the two energy harvesting modes are analyzed. Thirdly, simulation tests are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system. The results show that the system is able to output at least 431 mW by harvesting only the electric field energy (no cord current case). Further more, the power transfer efficiency of the CT-harvested energy can be as high as 93.4%.
