Strategic Policy for Enhancing the Success Rate of Digital Startups in Indonesia
The acceleration of Indonesia’s digital economy had been a focus of government to support the achievement of Indonesia golden age 2045. By that year, the contribution of digital economy to Indonesia’s GDP was expected to increase from 4% in 2023 to 19% in 2045. Furthermore, it was the uniqueness of Indonesia’s digital economy where the digital startups played a great role as the major contributor. During this time, Government of Indonesia had put effort to drive the digital startups development by launching several programs through relevant ministries and government bodies. This research used three different studies, each study had different objectives which were conducted sequentially to achieve the triangulation that allows consistency. The result from the descriptive study showed that the existing government programs were concentrated in the seed stage and micro level, which focused on creating number of entrepreneurs through individual skills and motivation development programs. Furthermore, it was also found two valleys of death which presented in the pre-seed stage (minimum viable product) and maturity and establishment stage (product-market fit). Finally, the result showed that the most needed policy for accelerating digital startup success rate by Indonesia’s digital startup ecosystem was the regulations and governance reform, highlighting the importance of comprehensive policy presence throughout policymaking cycle, as well as proving that the existing programs were concentrated for the micro level policies.
