Mathematical Modeling of Dynamic Adsorption of Amphiphilic Catalyst During Two-phase Flow in Porous Media

This paper investigates the dynamic adsorption of amphiphilic catalyst under various characteristics of hydrocarbon field development: oil viscosity, pore space heterogeneity, and reservoir temperature. The results are based on numerical simulations obtained using the lattice Boltzmann method. We consider cases of low and high temperature that controls the balance between convective and diffusion transport of catalyst. Digital images of porous structures are presented by granular two-dimensional models with various pore space heterogeneity. Oil viscosity corresponds to heavy and bituminous fluid. The results show that enhancing oil viscosity, heterogeneity helps to suppress the adsorbed amount, while increasing temperature stimulates the adsorbed amount. Influence of heterogeneity on the adsorbed amount strongly depends on temperature and oil viscosity. At low temperature, an increase in oil viscosity significantly enhances the role of heterogeneity. On the contrary, at high temperature, the effect of heterogeneity on the adsorbed amount weakly depends on oil viscosity.
