Analytical study for detecting rusting in cylindrical pillars in L Band

This paper investigates the effectiveness of electromagnetic scattering in finding rust in reinforced cement concrete structures in non-destructive way. The analytical analysis shown here employs Maxwell’s equations and applies suitable boundary conditions to solve the three-layer cylinder at varying levels of rusting. The scattered and total electric fields at 1 GHz for varying rusting levels demonstrate that the rust can be detected in a non-invasive way.

Abstract

This paper investigates the effectiveness of electromagnetic scattering in finding rust in reinforced cement concrete structures in non-destructive way. The analytical analysis shown here employs Maxwell’s equations and applies suitable boundary conditions to solve the three-layer cylinder at varying levels of rusting. The scattered and total electric fields at 1 GHz for varying rusting levels demonstrate that the rust can be detected in a non-invasive way.
