A Universal Model for Waveform Design of Integrated Communication and Navigation

Traditional communication and navigation systems are typically designed independently, utilizing different frequency bands without integration for combined applications. However, both systems operate on the transmission of radio signals, which provides a natural advantage for their integration. This paper a universal model for the design of the ICaN waveform, which incorporates a theoretical framework and considers trade-offs in resource allocation, which aims to optimize the performance of both communication and navigation systems in typical application scenarios. Communication performance is assessed in terms of data transfer rate, while navigation performance uses the merit factor (MF). Through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, relying on the Single Carrier Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) system the feasibility, effectiveness, and engineering implementation of the universal model are validated, enabling optimal integration of communication and navigation in typical application scenarios.
