QUAL FORMA DE TERAPIA DE SUBSTITUIÇÃO RENAL ADOTAR EM PACIENTE COM DOENÇA RENAL CRÔNICA?
Chronic kidney disease (CKD), as its name implies, is a permanent and irreversible dysfunction of kidney function, which can be caused by various etiologies. It is defined by diagnostic evidence of a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m², associated with albuminuria, for a period longer than 3 months. Patients with this diagnosis are classified into five categories, as defined by the KDOQI (Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative) in 2002, based on their glomerular filtration rate. Due to the fact that CKD has a variable and extensive etiology and typically does not present symptoms until it reaches advanced stages, many patients are diagnosed in end-stage phases and require some form of renal replacement therapy.
