PRINTING OF SHAPE MEMORY HYDROGELS BY ROBOTIC DISPENSERS

High concentrations of poly N-isopropylacrylamide (bulk pNIPAAm) gel exhibit shape memory properties.Conventionally, bulk pNIPAAm gel was made by mold casting, which limits the degree of freedom in modeling. In this report, we developed a high-viscosity bulk pNIPAAm ink by pre-polymerization and rheology adjustment with chitin nanofibers, and demonstrated printing on a two-dimensional plane by a robot dispenser.

Abstract

High concentrations of poly N-isopropylacrylamide (bulk pNIPAAm) gel exhibit shape memory properties.Conventionally, bulk pNIPAAm gel was made by mold casting, which limits the degree of freedom in modeling. In this report, we developed a high-viscosity bulk pNIPAAm ink by pre-polymerization and rheology adjustment with chitin nanofibers, and demonstrated printing on a two-dimensional plane by a robot dispenser.
