Study on regeneration and recovering of cathode materials for waste LFP batteries with sucrose
Lithium-ion batteries serve as indispensable energy storage devices in grid-scale energy storage systems, and the recycling of their LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries is of crucial significance in promoting efficient resource recycling, enhancing environmental protection, and effectively reducing the overall cost of energy storage systems. Current recovery methods via acid leaching are complex, costly, and environmentally harmful. We propose a simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly method using sucrose for waste LFP material treatment. By dimethyl carbonate immersion and low-temperature sintering, followed by high-temperature calcination with lithium source and sucrose, the LFP material’s capacity was regenerated from $110 \mathrm{mAh} / \mathrm{g}$ to over $155 \mathrm{mAh} / \mathrm{g}$, with improved microstructure and lattice structure. Our findings suggest sucrose-assisted high-temperature solid-state recovery as a promising approach for high-performance regenerated LFP cathodes.
