The Role of the Prophetic Sunnah in Achieving Sustainable Development Through Preserving the Natural Environment: A Descriptive Inductive Study

This research explores a timeless and universal issue: the preservation of the natural environment in the Prophetic Sunnah and the promotion of its sustainable development. The Sunnah provides a comprehensive framework for environmental stewardship, emphasizing the protection of public spaces, such as roads and natural landscapes, through practices like afforestation, the prohibition of polluting natural sites, and the encouragement of cleanliness. It mandates the removal of harm and waste from public areas, promising divine reward for such actions, as exemplified in the Prophetic teaching that removing obstacles from the path is an act of charity. These principles were diligently observed by the Companions of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with them) and upheld by successive generations, underscoring the practical application of the Sunnah in fostering environmental conservation and sustainability. This study specifically focuses on two fundamental components of the natural environment: vegetation and roads. It examines how the Sunnah laid down principles for the responsible management of environmental resources, demonstrating that Islamic teachings preceded modern environmental legislation in addressing key ecological concerns, albeit without encompassing all aspects comprehensively. The research is structured into two main sections: First Section: A conceptual analysis; Second Section: An exploration of the role of the Prophetic Sunnah in advancing sustainable development through environmental preservation.
