Dynamic Experimental and Numerical Studies on Damped Outriggers With a Rhombic Amplification Device

ABSTRACT A damped outrigger with a new type of rhombic amplification device was proposed. A series of dynamic tests and finite element analyses were performed to verify the feasibility of the rhombic amplification device in amplifying the energy dissipation capability. The energy dissipation capacity of the damper and outrigger was investigated across various loading frequencies and amplitudes, comparing the energy dissipation and damage of two types of outriggers. Additionally, the trend of the amplification factor for damping force and damper displacement was analyzed. The test results showed that the rhombic amplification device can effectively increase the damping force and damper displacement. Meanwhile, the amplification factor of both damping force and damper displacement fluctuates with loading amplitude and frequency changes. This optimized utilization of the damper's performance enhances the energy dissipation effect of the damped outrigger. The finite element model established in this paper provided a valuable reference for research in the dynamic response and energy dissipation of the amplified damping outrigger.
