Evaluation of Street Vitality under the Background of Urban Regeneration
In recent years, numerous historic neighborhoods have encountered challenges such as deteriorating infrastructure, outdated public amenities, an aging population, and a lack of vibrancy. Concurrently, with the advancement of society, the availability of public spaces for residents’ activities has diminished. Consequently, this has led to reduced resident interaction and a decline in communal activities that undermine the sustainable development of these communities. This study presents a quantitative evaluation system for assessing the vitality of urban street open spaces from a user-centric perspective. The system encompasses three dimensions: security, functionality, and comfort. Data is collected through field questionnaires and interviews while assigning weights to each index using the entropy weighting method. Based on an analysis of indicator weights and residents’ satisfaction levels derived from this research, it becomes evident that there are deficiencies in existing renovation efforts within old communities. Therefore, targeted remodeling suggestions are proposed based on these research findings.
