A Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis of Green Buildings during 2013–2023

Green building (GB) is a crucial factor in high-quality development of construction industry. Since the launch of Document “Green Building Action Programme” by China’s government in 2013, green building has gained popularity and widespread attention. To understand the research trends of GB from 2013 to 2023, this study conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to identify its research progress, areas, hotspots, and trends. The core literature set was identified from the Web of Science (WOS) database with 3,408 publications. The volume of publications, journal of publication, country, institution, research scope, and keywords were selected as the object of analysis. The results show that the number of publications on GB has gradually increased since 2013, reaching peaking in 2023. China is the country with the largest number of publications and the greatest impact, but the cooperation between institutions and authors fails to be close. Research hotspots can be summarized as life cycle assessments of GB, barriers to its development, and GB materials. Future directions for research are identified as intelligent GB, the dynamics of its carbon emissions, and critical success factors for GB.
