The Micro-Renewal Strategy of Workers’ Village of Zhangjiakou City Public Spaces: A Case Study
As the era of “large-scale demolition and construction” urban development comes to an end, the continuous advancement of the renewal of old urban areas has gained attention. Worker villages, as important components of these old urban areas, face issues such as aging infrastructure and declining quality of public spaces. Therefore, research on micro-renewal strategies for these areas has attracted significant interest. This article takes the worker villages in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China, as a case study. By analyzing specific cases and summarizing micro-renewal strategies for public spaces in old urban areas, combined with the theory of “urban catalysts,” it constructs a method for the intervention of catalyst theory in micro-renewal of public spaces in old urban areas. The goal is to achieve spatial revitalization, continuity of functions, and exploration of cultural context, with the hope of providing insights for future micro-renewal of public spaces in old urban areas.
