The Three-Dimensional Space of a National Holiday in the Aspect of Updating Traditions (on the Example of Italy)
The significance of the holiday in the life of an individual and the community as a whole has been thought about since antiquity. Many theories and approaches to the consideration of this cultural phenomenon have been created. This article aims to examine the key characteristics of the national holiday in order to actualize the traditional values that make up the core of the festive event. As a result of the paradigm shift in understanding the basic categories that shape the life of a community, there is a distortion of meanings. Descriptions of the holiday within the framework of different approaches indicate different semantic levels within this phenomenon. In this study, an attempt is made to form a scheme of the multidimensional space of the holiday, as a cultural unit with a complex structure. The article examines the national holiday of St. Martin in the Abruzzo region of Italy, in a country with dominant regional differences, including in festive culture.
