ENERGY EFFICIENCY AS A WAY TO ENSURE UKRAINE'S ENERGY SECURITY

The article explores energy efficiency as a key direction for ensuring Ukraine's energy security. The topic's relevance is driven by the need to reduce dependence on energy imports and enhance the energy system's resilience. Energy efficiency is a critical component in sustainable development and energy security. By maximizing the use of energy with minimal losses, it can significantly reduce energy consumption without compromising productivity or quality. The role of energy-saving measures focuses on reducing overall energy consumption through various strategies such as turning off standby electrical devices, installing energy-efficient lighting, and insulating buildings. The research methodology includes analysing legislative acts, assessing the implementation of energyefficient technologies, and energy consumption management systems. The results show that Ukraine's alignment with the updated Directive (EU) 2023/1791 on energy efficiency and adopting similar measures can enhance its energy security and reduce its reliance on imported energy resources. The development of a gas hub in Ukraine, leveraging its extensive network of underground gas storage facilities, is also explored as a strategic initiative to enhance energy security and economic competitiveness. Small modular nuclear reactors offer a compact and flexible alternative to traditional atomic reactors, while floating power plants provide a rapid deployment option for generating electricity in coastal areas or regions affected by natural disasters. The practical implications of this study are significant for policymakers, energy companies, and other stakeholders involved in the energy sector. By implementing the recommended energy efficiency measures and technologies, Ukraine can achieve substantial energy savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance its energy security. The findings of this study provide a comprehensive framework for developing and implementing effective energy policies and strategies that align with global best practices and contribute to sustainable development.
