Realizing 10 Gbps Frequency Continuously Tunable D-Band Signal Transmission With 20 Kilometers Wireless Distance Based on Photon Assistance

This article demonstrates a photonics-assisted coherent receiving system for D-band wireless transmission with 20 km wireless distance, featuring a tunable carrier frequency ranging from 110 to 170 GHz. By combining a variety of high-gain devices and employing a new adaptive intermediate frequency (IF) estimation algorithm, we not only improved the bit error rate (BER) performance but also eliminated the need for fine-tuning the local oscillator (LO) frequency to match the specific system. The adaptive IF estimation algorithm dynamically adjusts to different frequency, optimizing signal recovery and reducing the processing time. With this approach, we successfully transmitted a 10 Gbps QPSK signal over the entire D-band. The system achieved a total throughput of 200 Gbps·km (10 Gbps × 20 km), with the BER consistently maintained below the 7% hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) threshold of 3.8 × 10−3. These results highlight the effectiveness of the adaptive IF estimation algorithm in ensuring robust and efficient D-band transmission, offering a pathway for scalable high-frequency systems in future wireless communication networks.
