Evaluation of Hybrids, Planting Date, and Fungicide for Tar Spot in Corn in Wanatah, IN, 2024
Tar spot, caused by Phyllachora maydis, is a fungal disease that can cause significant yield loss in Indiana corn. This report evaluates the effect of two hybrids of corn ( Zea mays ‘P9608Q’ and ‘P1108Q’), two planting dates, and fungicide application for tar spot management. The trial was conducted in 2024 in a research field in Wanatah, IN. Disease severity, grain moisture, test weight, and yield data were collected. Results from this study will help farmers in developing practices to manage and minimize the impact of tar spot on their farms.
