Step-by-Step Reliability Analysis of Wireless Battery Charger for Electric Vehicles using the Markov Process
Literature has several wireless battery charger topologies, and, generally, their performance comparisons are made based on cost and efficiency. However, reliability even being a very crucial parameter is mostly overlooked. This research paper employs the Markov process (MP) based approach to conduct a comprehensive reliability analysis of wireless battery charging systems tailored specifically for electric vehicles (EVs). The research is focused on inductive coupling wireless power transfer, which is widely used due to its efficiency and compatibility with existing EV infrastructure. Firstly, to analyze the reliability of WBC, two topologies, which are being intensively studied in the literature, are selected. Thereafter, the converters are designed for the same set of specifications. Then, with the known parameters, the reliability analysis is performed based on the MP. The process steps are elaborated in detail which can be utilized for the analysis of any power electronic converter. Finally, results are presented, and a discussion is made on the outcome of the study.
