Cyclopropyl Carbinol: A Versatile Motif for the Synthesis of Diene and Naphthalene Compounds under Ultra‐Low Loading of Catalytic Bismuth(III) Trifluoromethanesulfonate

Abstract Cyclopropyl carbinol serves as a versatile intermediate for the construction of structurally diverse molecular frameworks. In this study, we report the use of bismuth(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate (Bi(OTf)₃) as a highly efficient catalyst for the conversion of cyclopropyl carbinol derivatives into dienes and naphthalene compounds. Operating with only 0.5 mol% catalyst under mild conditions (85 °C), this method demonstrates high yields, broad substrate scope. Comparative studies reveal the superior catalytic performance of Bi(OTf)₃ over other Lewis acids. Additionally, this protocol significantly reduces catalyst loading, reaction time, and energy consumption, addressing key challenges in green chemistry. The developed methodology offers a powerful platform for synthesizing complex molecules.
