Sustainable Urban Built Environment Strategies: A Smart City Approach Using Dynamic Network Processes and Open Data
Governments of various countries have successively discussed relevant policies and visions that, through the construction of smart cities, are aimed at improving people’s quality of life and moving toward sustainable development. Smart cities can be applied simultaneously with planning principles and information and communications technology to enhance the built environment, achieve sustainability and habitability, and allow cities to develop sustainably. The emergence of open data enables urban planners to produce more effective results by applying dynamic estimation to indicators obtained from such data as an objective basis, upon which a model is constructed to achieve enhanced model accuracy. This study thus established built environment indicators that consider urban sustainability and habitability from the perspective of built environment planning strategy and integrated them with the concept of smart cities (i.e., innovative environment, mobility, and living) through open data and time-series analysis. Moreover, it incorporated the objectivity of open data into the dynamic network process methodology to formulate a built environment planning strategy that meets the goals of a smart city and also future trends and needs of our cities.
