Cystic schwannoma of the tongue base
Schwannomas are benign tumours arising from Schwann cells, which most commonly occur in the head and neck region; however, their localization in the pharynx is rare. The case report describes a 69-year-old asymptomatic female patient dia gnosed with a cystic lesion of the tongue root during intubation due to urosepsis. The tumour was removed trans-orally, and histological examination confi rmed a pseudocystic schwannoma. The patient continues to be monitored, is asymptomatic, and shows no signs of recurrence. Key words cystic – schwannoma – neurinoma – neurilemmoma – base of tongue
