ABFRACTION AS A CAUSE AND CONSEQUENCE OF ORTHOPEDIC TREATMENT

In modern orthopedic practice, pathologies associated with dental damage by the carious process prevail, however, pathologies of non-carious origin have a high prevalence and significance. The etiology, pathogenesis, principles of diagnosis and treatment of caries and its complications are well established and do not pose difficulties for dentists. All of these factors can cause difficulties in diseases of non-carious origin, since specialists meet with them less often, and also often treat them according to familiar protocols, ignoring the peculiarities of the course of pathology, which leads to recurrence. An abfractive defect is one of such pathologies, in which complex treatment is required that affects all components of the disease. To date, a shortage of theoretical material has been identified concerning the patterns of clinical course and assistance in abfraction. The purpose of the study is to identify new data in the analysis of scientific materials revealing the etiology, pathogenetic links and treatment of diffraction defects. A review of domestic and foreign scientific literature over the past 10 years has been conducted, which analyzes dissertations and articles published only in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Fundamentally, there are several directions in the treatment of abfractions. Today, both orthopedic and therapeutic techniques are used. The use of both techniques is acceptable, but it is important to understand the indications for their use. Therapeutic treatment for this pathology has reduced strength characteristics and aesthetic indicators, lower adhesion, and a shorter service life compared to orthopedic. Prosthetics for abfractions allows for the most comprehensive approach to eliminating the defect, as well as preventing the occurrence of a recurrence. Conclusions. The issues of studying the etiological aspects, pathogenesis and approaches to the treatment of diffraction defects remain relevant today. Prosthetics is an effective way to help patients with the pathology under study, however, it requires a dentist to understand the specifics of its course.

Abstract

In modern orthopedic practice, pathologies associated with dental damage by the carious process prevail, however, pathologies of non-carious origin have a high prevalence and significance. The etiology, pathogenesis, principles of diagnosis and treatment of caries and its complications are well established and do not pose difficulties for dentists. All of these factors can cause difficulties in diseases of non-carious origin, since specialists meet with them less often, and also often treat them according to familiar protocols, ignoring the peculiarities of the course of pathology, which leads to recurrence. To date, a shortage of theoretical material has been identified concerning the patterns of clinical course and assistance in abfraction. The purpose of the study is to identify new data in the analysis of scientific materials revealing the etiology, pathogenetic links and treatment of diffraction defects.
