A high-stiffness, high-bending-resistance nacre-like microstructure and its application in solid-state lithium-ion batteries
Abstract An innovative nacre-like structure has been identified, demonstrating enhanced bending strength and compressive capacity. This study provides a detailed analysis of the mechanical response of composite electrodes under lithiation-induced expansion and impact loading in practical applications. The potential of this structure as a composite cathode for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLB) is explored. A comprehensive evaluation of the mechanical and electrochemical performance of the lithium-ion batteries using nacre-like composite electrodes under varying load conditions is presented. The results indicate that the nacre-like layered structure significantly enhances bending performance and improves the safety of lithium-ion batteries, offering valuable insights for promising battery designs. This work reveals the superior electrochemical and mechanical properties of nacre-inspired composite electrodes, aiming to identify the optimal battery structure and composition to mitigate mechanical failure under operational loads during charge-discharge cycles.
