ON-THE-SPOT DETECTION OF AIRBORNE VIRUSES ENABLED BY A 3D-PRINTED INTERFACE BETWEEN AN AEROSOL COLLECTOR AND A MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE
Detection of airborne viruses is crucial for the implementation of effective methods to stop their transmission chain, as demonstrated in the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. The pandemic also highlighted a need for testing methods that allow a faster turnaround from sample collection to result. This paper reports on a testing system that can carry out aerosol collection and on-the-spot detection, enabled by a low-cost, 3D printed interface that integrates a collector with a microfluidic detector.
