This work is the result of a master's research conducted within the Graduate Program in Psychology: Practices and Innovation in Mental Health (PPG-PRISMAL) at the University of Pernambuco, Garanhuns campus. It aimed to explore the use of Focus Groups (FG) as a qualitative methodology tool for analysis in psychological research, particularly in the areas of practices and innovation in mental health, within an institutional care facility for children and adolescents in the city of Ibimirim, Pernambuco. This experience is detailed through the stages of research approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the University of Pernambuco (UPE), Garanhuns campus, under the review number 6.845.329, in accordance with CNS Resolution No. 466/12 from the same university. The objective of the research was to provide and implement spaces for support and reflection for the caregivers from a psychoanalytic perspective. The Focus Group proved to be effective in stimulating discussions and opinions from the caregivers, offering insight into their perspective on the institutionalization process of children and adolescents. Additionally, it highlighted how these techniques contribute to the caregivers' mental health and the care they provide to the institutionalized individuals.
