Chalcogen Bonding Catalysis in Organic Synthesis

Abstract In recent years, an increasing number of noncovalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonds, halogen bonds, and π···π interactions, have been widely applied in catalyzing organic synthesis reactions. Compared to traditional methods, these interactions offer advantages such as milder reaction conditions, lower toxicity, and higher catalyst turnover rates. Among them, chalcogen bonding interactions have attracted growing attention in the field of organic catalysis due to their adjustable polarity, significant directionality, and flexibility that facilitates both binding and dissociation. This review provides an overview of the advancements and applications of chalcogen bonding catalysts in organic synthesis reactions, highlighting the crucial role that chalcogen bonds play in catalytic mechanisms and offering valuable insights for the understanding of chalcogen bonding catalysts.
