Integrated methodologies for a new study approach to the class of early medieval single-fired glazed ceramic in Tuscany (Italy)

This research aims to show a new methodological approach for the study of a specific class of ceramics: early medieval single-fired glazed ceramics. The project analyzed the sites of the archaeological context of the Colline Metallifere area, study area of the ERC Advanced nEU-Med project. Thanks to this project it was possible to carry out different types of analyzes on a selection of 75 samples: petrographic and chemical analysis; lead isotopes; organic residue analysis; thermoluminescence analysis. The methodology used aims to define the morphology, production technology, chronology and identification of the production centers of the Vetrina Sparsa Toscana. This methodology combines the traditional humanistic and macroscopic approach with the archaeometric and microscopic one.
