Glazed Pottery Décor as a Reflection of Daily Life. The Case Study of Human Representation from the 13th century Shipwreck from Novy Svet (Sudak, Crimea)
The paper deals with the bowl from the 13 th century shipwreck. It provides us with the most complete and representative example of GWW IV with a human depiction known to date and represents the dance scene. The iconography of the image follows the generally accepted models of the time and the theme reflects the average practice of festivities, occurring in the daily life of Byzantine society. The context of the artifact and the related findings suggest the bowl as one of the constituent elements of the thematically united table ware set, representing the main features of the elite banquet and hunting, presumably in the form of its selected core attributes and characters.
