Abstract Some early manuscripts of the Peshitta that seem to preserve the oldest version of P read in Lam 2:5 Adonai has become an enemy, he has devoured Israel , vis-a-vis MT ‮ כְּאוֹיֵב ‬‎ like an enemy . The omission of the comparative seems to go back to the proto-Masoretic Vorlage of P, which can be reconstructed as *‮ היה אדני אויב ‬‎ and is likely to have also formed the Vorlage of Tg.
