GRIT AND MENTAL HEALTH OF LECTURERS-ON-HOURLY-BASIS (LOHB) FACULTY: IMPLICATIONS TO THEIR PROFESSIONAL WELL-BEING
This study identified the profile, grit level, and mental health status of lecturers-on-hourly-basis (LOHB) faculty at Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) and examined the relationship between their profile variables and their grit and mental health.Profile variables such as age, sex, educational attainment, teaching experience, teaching load, and frequency of interaction with colleagues and supervisors were analyzed to determine their influence on grit and mental health. The results revealed that LOHB faculty exhibited a high level of grit and reported good mental health. However, workplace demands and job instability influenced their overall well-being.No significant relationship was found between profile variables and grit levels but subject preparations were positively correlated with work-life balance, while negative coworker interactions were linked to lower job satisfaction.Grit and mental health showed only modest correlations.Based on these findings, the study recommended implementing mentoring programs, training, and scholarship opportunities to support professional growth.Resilience training, wellness programs, and policies promoting work-life balance were also suggested to improve job satisfaction and mental health.Lastly, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment and recognizing faculty perseverance were advised to strengthen motivation and faculty retention. These measures aimed to contribute to the long-term professional development and well-being of LOHB faculty members.
