Pulmonary thromboembolism during pregnancy

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) in pregnancy is one of the most common causes of maternal mortality, causing hemodynamic instability and circulatory failure. The management of these patients is very challenging and requires a rapid choice of therapy, considering both maternal and fetal risks. Objective. To demonstrate the approach to timely diagnosis and treatment of PTE during delivery using a clinical case of a pregnant woman as an example. Patients and methods. The article presents a clinical case of PTE in a pregnant patient at 31 weeks’ gestation. The description is based on the patient’s medical record. Results. The presented clinical case of PTE in a pregnant woman demonstrates the complexity and life-threatening pattern of this condition, emphasizing the clinical problems of diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion. The management of PTE during pregnancy is challenging due to the complexity of the risk-benefit ratio of anticoagulant therapy. A multidisciplinary approach is needed to ensure optimal outcomes for both mother and her fetus. Key words: pulmonary thromboembolism, pregnancy, venous thromboembolism, thrombosis
