Sliding Mode Control Method Based on FLC for Performance Improvement of PMD Battery Charger

This paper proposes a sliding mode control (SMC) method based on a fuzzy logic control (FLC) for performance improvement of personal mobility device (PMD) battery charger. In the battery charger, SMC method is used to control the output voltage of the battery charger with fast dynamic characteristic. However, due to a chattering caused by SMC method, the output current has a large ripple. Therefore, in this paper, SMC method based on FLC for performance improvement such as not only fast dynamic characteristic but also reduction of the output current ripple is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed SMC method based on FLC is verified by the simulation results.
