Control of Quick Charger System Applying MMC with High Frequency AC output
One of the subjects for the spread of EVs is the spread of charging stations. Thus, it is essential to popularize and improve the performance of quick charger systems (QCS), which allow quick and easy charging. The QCS for EV is widely developed to improve charging time and its performance. In this research, a novel QCS applying a modular multilevel converter (MMC) with a high frequency transformer and its control method is proposed. The MMC is an attractive power converter that enables high voltage multilevel output and is characterized by the ability to control output and input independently. The proposed control consists of the active and reactive power control, capacitor voltages control in the MMC, high frequency AC output to the transformer and DC output voltage control. By linking these controls, the desired QCS control is achieved. The system operation and control method are provided and the proposed system is performed by simulation and experiment.
