Validation of Variable Voltage Control Method Using Z-Source Inverter for SRM Drive

Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) are robust, cost-efficient, and capable of high-speed rotation due to their magnet-less design. However, achieving high-speed operation requires higher voltages compared to low-speed operation. To ensure efficient performance across the entire speed range, a variable link voltage is essential. Therefore, we focused on the Z-Source Inverter (ZSI), which can adjust the link voltage according to the rotational speed. The ZSI is suitable for driving SRMs that require both low and high voltages. In this paper, we propose a control method for the ZSI in an SRM drive circuit, based on the analysis of simulation results with actual equipment in mind.
