A Novel Capacitive Power Transfer System with Embedded Coupler for Rotary Application

Capacitive power transfer (CPT) has great prospects in the field of wireless power supply for rotary application. However, the traditional circular coupler applied to rotating scenes generates large electric field dissipation to the surrounding environment. An embedded circular coupler is proposed in this paper, which can reduce the electric field dissipation while ensuring the power transfer capability of the coupler. A double-sided LC compensation network is used to build a complete CPT system for efficient power transfer and is verified by a prototype with a power level of 1kW. The experimental results realized a DC-DC efficiency of 92.5% at 1kW power transfer with a safety distance of just 76mm.
