Implementation and Validation of a LUT-Based Model of an IPMSM Considering Saturation and Spatial Harmonics

This paper introduces a lookup table (LUT) based model for an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine that incorporates saturation effects and spatial harmonics. The accuracy of the model is evaluated by implementing a voltage source inverter (VSI) directly in a finite element (FE) software, applying the same voltage patterns to the developed LUT-based model, and then evaluating the error for both space vector modulation and six-step operation. The error of the model resulted below 9 percent for all investigated operating points for both strategies. Therefore, the model proves to be significantly accurate while reducing the simulation time by less than a fiftieth compared to a VSI simulation in the FE software.
