Field Unit Type Magnet-Assisted Wound Field Motor for HEV and EV Applications with Distributed Mortise Structure

A novel rotor structure of magnet-assisted wound filed motors was proposed in this paper. In the proposed motor, to improve the torque density of the magnet-assisted wound field motor, field-unit type rotor was applied. Moreover, the split rotor core and the distributed mortise structure were combined to reduce mechanical stress due to the high rotational speed operation. To validate its effectiveness, the magnetic and mechanical properties of the proposed motor was verified using finite element method, and obtained results were compared with the conventional motor. From the results, it was confirmed that the proposed structure was effective for improving the performance of magnet-assisted wound field motors.
