A Maturity Model for Digital Twin Integration of Mobile Robotics

Mobile robots are increasingly present in the world around us. Simultaneously, our living, work, and play spaces are becoming more intelligent through the integration of sensor networks giving rise to digital twins. Digital twins primarily interact with the physical world through actuators and sensors, yet most of our spaces were not designed for this. By integrating mobile robots with their corresponding digital twin, we can bridge this integration gap, but unfortunately, not all mobile robots are created equal. Thus, a tool is needed to assess the suitability of these platforms for their strategic integration into digital twin solutions. However, existing maturity models for digital twins and mobile robotic platforms do not provide sufficient insight. This work takes an initial step towards developing such a tool in the form of a maturity model and applies it to two mobile robots, the Spot and Bittle platforms.
