Adaptive Stabilization of a Three-Stage Brushless Generator-Based DC Electrical Power System in More Electric Aircraft

With the advancement of more-electric aircraft high-voltage DC (HVDC) technology, the stability issues arising from the interaction between the aircraft generator and the constant power loads (CPLs) are increasingly prominent. In this paper, an impedance model of a DC three-stage brushless generator (DC-TSG) is derived, and the stability analysis under variable rotor speed is explored. To address interactive instability resulting from generator-load interaction and self-instability due to the excessive compensation, an autonomic compensation gain and phase compensation transfer function are introduced for an adaptive stabilization. Finally, the validations of the derived impedance model and effectiveness of proposed adaptive stabilization are conducted using RT-LAB hardware-in-the-loop real-time simulation platform.
