Thyristor-Based Multi-Port DC Solid-State Circuit Breaker Capable of Bidirectional Operation

The blocking time of a DC circuit breaker performs an important role in the reliability of the DC system. A lot of research is being done on thyristor-based DC solid-state circuit breakers due to their fast-blocking time and low conduction loss. However, using an existing DC circuit breaker in a multi-port system is not cost-effective. In this paper, we propose a thyristor-based multi-port DC solid-state circuit breaker capable of bidirectional operation. The proposed multi-port DC solid-state circuit breaker can perform blocking operation of all ports through a single capacitor and inductor. Additionally, each port can be used as a power source or a load and can perform bidirectional operation. The operation characteristics of the proposed multi-port DC solid-state circuit breaker were analyzed and verified through simulation.
