Rotor Stress Analysis for High-Speed PM Machines Considering Fringe Effect
This paper investigates rotor stress in high-speed permanent magnet machines, focusing on fringe effects due to PM segmentation. Traditional model assumes uniform stress distribution, overlooking the variations caused by segmented PMs. Through finite element analysis, the influence of segmentation is examined, taking into consideration factors such as interference and width of PMs. It is revealed that fringe effects lead to stress concentration in the rotor's sleeve and PMs, particularly at lower interference levels, affecting the design space of the sleeve's parameters. The optimization of rotor parameters for the balance of structural integrity and electromagnetic performance is also explored.
