Research on High-Speed PM-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motor Based on Dual-Phase Materials
Permanent magnet-assisted synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMaSynRMs) offer advantages such as low cost and high reliability. However, they are not feasible for high-speed applications due to their low mechanical strength. In order to run them to a high speed, it is necessary to increase the thickness of the flux bridge and central rib areas. As a result, the flux leakage is increased and the torque density is reduced. This paper proposes the use a dual-phase material for the rotor core so as to enhance the rotor strength and to avoid the flux leakage problem. The flux bridge and central rib regions are constructed from non-magnetic, high-mechanical-strength stainless steel, while the remaining regions are made of silicon steel. Demonstrator PMaSynRMs are designed based on the measured electromagnetic and mechanical properties of the dual-phase materials. A comprehensive and in-depth study of the performance of the demonstrator PMaSynRMs was conducted.
