A Parallel Hybrid Excitation Brushless Generator Operating Efficiently Within Wide-Speed Range
The parallel hybrid excitation brushless generator (PHEBG) has widely attracted interest due to its excellent magnetic field regulation ability and low permanent demagnetization risk. In this paper, a new PHEBG combining a homopolar inductor machine part and a permanent magnet machine part is proposed. The structure and operational principles are introduced. Then, the advantages, the same armature configuration and homopolar inductor structure, of combining these two parts are illustrated. In addition, the operating mode and losses of the generator system (including the proposed PHEBG and the diode rectifier) are investigated in wide-speed-range operation. Finally, based on the finite element analysis, the high reliability and efficiency are validated, and the output and short characteristics are illustrated. The proposed generator system is promising for application in on-board dc power systems.
