The Method of Single-Segment Layer-by-Layer Substitution for Inverse Design of Passive Magnetic Springs

Special-shaped magnetic springs (S2MSs), capable of customizing force-displacement relationships, hold the potential to serve a unique function across a multitude of applications. It's feasible to design a parallel or series S2MS with specific force-displacement relationships based on the original features of the mechanism, thereby achieving the desired mechanical response. However, the inverse design of S2MS realized via dual-segment magnetic layer substitution customarily necessitate four to eight custom-shaped permanent magnets (PMs), thereby complexifying the stator's configuration and limiting its application potential. This study investigates the use of a magnetic single-segment layer as an effective substitute for modulating magnets, comparing the impact of optimizing different magnetic layer parameters on the effectiveness of substituting S2MSs. The results indicate that employing the single-segment substitution for inverse design S2MSs facilitates the simplification of manufacturing and assembly processes, while maintaining the long-stroke constant force features.
