Development of a Megawatt-Class Engine Embedded Electric Machine for Aircraft Electrification
This paper reports on the engine embedded electric machine (E3M). As one of the propulsion systems for aircraft electrification, a hybrid electric propulsion system is being considered, requiring an electric motor output of approximately 1 MW. We have examined electric motors that meet these requirements, developed a prototype, and conducted verification tests. The verification tests achieved a maximum output of 365 kW, which was in good agreement with the analytical results. This confirms that the examined electric motor has the potential for MW-class performance.
