Study of Mechanical Properties of High Voltage Cables Under Lateral Pressure Based on Finite Element Simulation
The traditional method of lateral pressure detection is to judge whether the cable body is damaged by simple visual observation, which is subjective and has a large error. This paper proposes a methodology based on simulation model calculations for quantifying the damage caused by lateral pressure on cables. The model allows visualization of the magnitude of stress concentrations and deformation rates caused by lateral pressure on the cable. In addition, the model compares the mechanical properties of wrinkled aluminum sheaths and smooth aluminum sheaths in terms of their resistance to lateral pressure. According to this method, the deformation rate of the wrinkled aluminum sheath is one order of magnitude higher than that of the smooth aluminum sheath for the same lateral pressure.
